The Heart of Illinois United Way is pleased to announce that Kate Green is the new Executive Director of the Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care.

Prior to joining the Heart of Illinois United Way, Green served on the City of Peoria’s Innovation Team and in the City Manager’s Office for six years. In her role, she was responsible for providing data analysis, best practice research, and connecting with other communities. Her work with governmental and non-governmental partners generated new solutions for systemic challenges. Green earned her Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield and her Bachelor of Science Political Science and History from Bradley University.

“The Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care, both the committee and our partner organizations, is pleased to have Kate Green leading the Continuum of Care’s work to end homelessness in central Illinois. Her background in city government and community-wide collaborations will help us continue to address homelessness with a system that is sustainable and comprehensive,” Robert Brandfass, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for OSF HealthCare and Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care Chair, said.

Established in 1994, the Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care is a united coalition of community systems including more than 60 nonprofit and government organizations. With the implementation of performance measures by state and federal funding entities, the Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care partnered with the Heart of Illinois United Way in 2016 to build a sustainable system that will significantly impact homelessness in central Illinois.

“Challenges such as homelessness are overwhelming and all-encompassing for the individuals experiencing them. By bringing to bear the talent and resources this region offers, we can work to drive meaningful change for the long-term prospective of individuals and families experiencing homelessness,” Green said. “Public service means that at the end of every day, I am proud of the work I’ve done in service of others. I am excited for the opportunity to continue that calling in this position.”

As Executive Director of the Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care (HOIHCOC), Green is responsible for the implementation and oversight of system-wide activities to reduce homelessness including strategic planning, agency services, and the management of multiple federal grants that positively position the HOIHCOC within the nationally competitive Housing and Urban Development funding process.

The vision of the Heart of Illinois Homeless Continuum of Care is to end homelessness in Fulton, Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties by ensuring access to permanent, safe and affordable housing. With comprehensive, coordinated services, individuals and families can maintain self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.
